In general, liquid bulk is divided into several main categories based on the type of commodity being transported. The types of liquid bulk cargo are as follows:

1. Crude Oil and Petroleum Products

This type of liquid bulk includes crude oil and various refined products, such as gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, kerosene, and fuel oil.

Transportation is generally carried out using specialized tanker ships designed to carry large volumes of liquids with high safety standards.

2. Liquid Chemicals

Liquid bulk cargo is generally packaged in various containers, ranging from drums and barrels for small volumes to ISO tanks and ship tanks for large-scale shipments. Some of the most commonly used transportation methods for carrying liquid cargo include:

Tankers: For inter-island or international shipping, liquid bulk cargo is usually transported using tankers equipped with large-capacity tanks. This mode of transport is widely used to carry crude oil, fuels, vegetable oils, and liquid chemicals.

Liquid Bulk Cargo Transportation Procedure

Transporting liquid bulk cargo requires careful planning and adherence to safety procedures. This is important for maintaining cargo quality, preventing contamination, and minimizing the risk of leaks or accidents during distribution.

Here are the general steps in the process of transporting and loading liquid bulk cargo:

1. Preparation Before Loading

Before the loading process begins, all shipping documents, cargo specifications, and the condition of tanks and equipment must be checked. Personnel also ensure that the tanks are clean, dry, and suitable for the type of liquid being transported.

2. Safety Inspection

The entire piping system, hoses, valves, pumps, and monitoring equipment are checked to make sure there is no damage or potential leaks. At this stage, personal protective equipment (PPE), communication systems, and emergency response procedures are also checked to ensure the transportation process complies with safety standards.

3. Loading Process

Once all preparations are done, the liquid bulk cargo is moved from the storage facility to the ship’s tank or vehicle using pumps and piping systems.

4. Monitoring During Transportation

After loading is complete, the cargo is transported to its destination by tanker ship, tank truck, or other suitable mode of transport. During the trip, the tank’s condition, pressure, temperature, and cargo stability are continuously monitored.

5. Unloading and Final Inspection

Upon arrival at the destination, the cargo is unloaded using procedures similar to those used during loading. After all the liquid has been transferred, checks are conducted on the volume, product quality, and tank condition to ensure no cargo loss or contamination occurs. All inspection results are documented as part of the shipping records.
